EMPLOYEES

At the end of the first year in a job about 20% of new employees will be seen as making a significant contribution and as top performers. These people will be given more opportunities and responsibilities. They are more likely to be given additional training, pay rises, and promotions.

Whether you become a top performer in your first year in a new job depends a lot on how well you manage your first 100 days in your new job. It is important in this time that you hit some key milestones.

During your first 100 days you want to settle in as quickly as you can, work out what your job involves, and show people you have what it takes to succeed in the organisation. You don’t want to move too quickly though or be seen as a know-all, so you need to strike the right balance in the first few months between listening, learning, and delivering.

We know how to strike the balance and have developed a self-paced work book to guide you through the first few months. The book is full of exercises and ideas to help you succeed.

The Newbies book has three main sections:

The trend in first year turnover is alarming - 1 in 5 new people quit their job within 12 months. This statistic certainly grabbed my attention.

At Tauranga City Council, we want all of our people to succeed, grow, and achieve their full potential, so it was a no brainer for us to seize the opportunity to reinforce our core values through a well-structured on-boarding programme. The programme Cynthia Johnson helped us to develop for our organisation proved to be the perfect vehicle to engage new team members in meaningful conversations about the things that will help them be their best and enjoy their work.

The onboarding tools we created together are a fun and safe way to start the conversations that really matter right from the start. It’s an excellent platform that enables new team members to learn and connect quickly with colleagues to build important relationships.

We are getting great results and new team members love the experience.
